Training Updates

What do firefighters do when they are not responding to emergencies? Firefighters spend a lot of time training, especially during the "off-season".

During a recent training,  Engineer Bowman rappelled down the side of a building, a rescue technique used to reach a victim located in an area without easy access. In our area, this type of rope rescue is usually used for accessing patients down cliffs and steep embankments.

Below, Firefighter Moran practices "smooth bump bump back to the pump". A firefighter can become lost and disoriented inside a smoky building, unable to see their way back to safety. During times like these, a firefighter must "feel" their way back using the couplings on the hose line.  The male coupling is closest to the exit, and the female coupling is closest to the fire. Moran is wearing a mask to simulate working in conditions with no visibility. Practicing this skill is essential to firefighter safety.

Reporting Road Hazards with SoCo Connect

You can report non-emergency road issues (such as potholes, broken signs, overgrown vegetation, etc.) using SoCo Connect, Sonoma County's application for submitting service requests. SoCo Connect allows County of Sonoma residents, businesses and visitors the ability to report and track non-emergency issues in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sonoma County's Transportation & Public Works Road Maintenance crews deal specifically with vegetation management on County roads for the purpose of keeping the roadway unobstructed. Road Maintenance crews do not manage vegetation on private property, or any facility other than County roads.

For emergencies, call 911.
