Vegetation Management "Fuels Crew"
The purpose of the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection Fuels Crew is to reduce vegetation (wildland "fuels") in order to slow or stop the spread of wildfires. The Fuels Crew uses chainsaws and chippers to cut and chip vegetation alongside roadways and other areas. They operate 7 days per week, 10 hours per day.
Although firefighting experience is helpful for understanding the purpose of the work, it is not required for the Fuels Crew. Our Fuels Crew does not respond to fires; if you are interested in a career in fire suppression, please see our Firefighting and Fire Prevention Careers page. Valid Driver's License and High School Diploma (or equivalent) are required for all positions. All applicants must undergo a background check and physical fitness test.
